About the EBT Card
The EBT Card is a reloadable eftpos prepaid card. You can use it to access immediate funds approved by Services Australia.
You can choose to have a physical or digital EBT Card. You can only have one card at any one time.
You can use the EBT Card to buy goods and make payments when all of these apply:
- the merchant or ATM accepts eftpos prepaid cards
- you have enough funds on your EBT Card
- the EBT Card expiry date is valid
- the EBT Card is active.
The EBT Card is not a debit or credit card, and it is not linked to any separate account.
Physical EBT card
If you choose a physical EBT Card, Services Australia will give you an active card and pre-set PIN. It is ready to use when you get it. You can add your physical card to the Digital Wallet on your smartphone.
You can use the EBT Cardholder Site and the EBT Card App to manage your EBT card yourself. You must provide an email or mobile number so we can send you how to register instructions.
You can use your physical EBT Card to:
- buy goods and services or get cash out from merchants who accept eftpos cards
- withdraw cash at ATMs across Australia
Digital EBT Card
If you choose a digital EBT card, you won’t get a physical card.
You will be sent your digital card link by email or SMS. The email or SMS will include instructions to register for the EBT Card App on your mobile device. Once you register, you must add the Digital EBT Card to your Digital Wallet and set a PIN before it will work at eftpos terminals.
You can also register to use the EBT Cardholder Site to manage your card yourself.
You can use your digital EBT Card to buy goods and services or get cash out from merchants who accept eftpos cards.
